Jewish Vilnius Tour.
Probably, we will start Jewish Vilnius Tour in the morning to be able to enter Vilnius Synagogue. A local famous architect Rosenhaus built it in 1903 in Moorish- Romanesque style. The excursion will continue in the medieval Jewish Quarter of Vilnius – Lithuanian Jerusalem.
Music school where Jasha Heifetz did his first steps in a music career, the building of the famous ORT school, the building of the famous Tarbut Gimnazia and nowadays JCC.
Our next highlight is a building of a Former Yiddish theatre. It was a rather simple warehouse, but a group of artists gave it a new birth as a cultural center. Just a few steps forward we will see the plaque in honor of rabbis’ council and the place of Theodor Herzl’s visit to Vilnius.
In addition, we will enter the courtyard of the Benedictine convent. Three Lithuanian Righteous Among the Nations saved there 12 Jewish people.
Another story will follow when we will enter the area of the Medieval Vilnius Ghetto. Will walk the streets of the Vilna Gaon’s, will see the place where his stature replaces his house. In the same place once stood Great Vilna Synagogue.
Visit the Jewish State Museum.
Furthermore, we will continue to the Big Ghetto to learn the story of suffering, resistance, and partisans. Stop next to the building of a former Jewish school, where during WWII was the Judenrat office and explore the story of “choiceless choices” and confrontations in the Ghetto.
In conclusion, we will proceed to the hiding place in the cellar, where Jews were hiding after the liquidation of the Ghetto. We will discuss with you whether Ghetto theatre can be identified as the center of Spiritual resistance.
