Kaunas city tour
We will start the Kaunas City tour by walking to the park of Confluence of the two biggest rivers in Lithuania. Next is the Old Town of Kaunas. Will visit Kaunas Cathedral and a beautiful Town Hall square. Locals call the old town hall a white swan, as the building shape with a tower reminds of a noble bird.
We will stop for a short visit to the garden of the former Presidential palace. Kaunas city became a capital of Lithuania after the first world war when Vilnius was conquered by poles. It was a period of flourishing in Lithuania in general and Kaunas in particular. Three statues of the Lithuanian presidents are evidence of the dramatic period.
Continue walking along the main pedestrian street, Laisves aleja, with its 2-3 story buildings just as they looked before the war.
To have a tour in Kaunas city and not to visit The Art Gallery of M. K. Ciurlionis is a waste. He was the outstanding Lithuanian painter, and composer. Today, his works are exhibited in the museum and you can also listen to his music while you look at the paintings.
From the museum, we will drive to Aleksot district, on the left bank of the river Nemunas. From the panoramic platform, we will enjoy a very nice and picturesque view of the city and the two rivers.
Jewish history in Kaunas
Walk through Vilnius street towards A. Mapu and L. Zamenhof streets which testify about a Jewish presence in Kaunas before the WWII. On Zamenhof street, one can still see a Synagogue and Talmud Tora buildings.
