Holocaust history and sites in Poland – Treblinka.
Poland has an enormous number of Jewish Heritage Sites. Today we will drive northeast towards Lithuania to visit two such places. One is Treblinka and a second one is Tykocin.
In Treblinka, Nazis built a concentration camp in July 1942, it operated for more than a year and took away lives of about 900.000 Jews and about 2000 Romas. Finally, by the end of the war, Nazi soldiers destroyed Treblinka death camp. Therefore no authentic barracks like in Auschwitz remained. There are a museum and an impressive memorial built on the very spot of the camp.
After learning the terrible circumstances of the Operation Reinhard we will drive to Tykocin.
Jewish Heritage in Poland – Tykocin.
Also, we will visit a heritage site Tykocin. It is a very cute little town with a nice market square, a Church and a fair number of old wooden and brick houses. Furthermore, there is a unique building of a Baroque Synagogue on one of the side streets. It is especially unique as it was built in 1642 and survived all wars and distractions. We will see amazing frescoes and the Ark and a Bima. Tykocin Synagogue is a museum and is open to the public.
Probably, we will have time to visit one of the oldest Jewish cemeteries in Poland.
