Welcome to our Music Tour around the Baltic Sea!
Upon arrival first acquaintance with the capital of Sweden by a panoramic sightseeing tour around the islands on which the city is situated. Transfer to the hotel for rest and welcome dinner. After the dinner, a walking by night of central Stockholm.
In the morning, we visit to Stockholm City Hall an every year venue of the Nobel Prize banquet, one of the major tourist attractions. Continue to Millesgården, an art museum and sculpture garden, on the island of Lidingö in Stockholm. After lunch, we’ll embark on a fascinating boat cruise “Under the Bridges of Stockholm”. Back to the hotel for rest before the performance at the famous Stockholm Opera House.
After the breakfast visit the world-famous Vasa Museum displaying the only almost fully intact 17th century ship. Walking in the Old town of Stockholm, the narrowest street, pedestrian street, Old Market square watching the change of the honour guards at the Royal Palace, impressive architecture of Stockholm center, monument in memory of a great righteous man Raoul Wallenberg, who saved thousands people during the Holocaust. In the late afternoon, take a ferry for night cruise to Tallinn. On the way enjoy the fascinating scenery of thousands islands of Stockholm archipelago.
City tour of Tallinn, including the Old Town, one of the most preserved in Northern Europe, impressive Russian Orthodox Alexander Nevski Cathedral, with its excellent acoustics, town fortifications, the Toompea Castle, “Kiek in de Kok” tower, admire the view of Tallinn harbour. In the Lower town – City Hall Square, an ancient pharmacy since 1422, St.Olaf church, once the highest in Europe.
Visit the Katharina guilds, the workshops of different craftsmen, such as hatter, tailor, leather-dresser, glassmaker, potter, stain glass master, etc. and will be able to watch them working. In the afternoon visit to the Singing field, where the nowadays Estonian independence woke up. Next is the visit to Pirita, a suburb of Tallinn, where the sailing competition of 1980 Olympics was held, the Convent of St.Bridget in Pirita. On the way back to the city stop at a beautiful “Rusalka” monument. In the evening a performance in Estonian National Opera and Ballet Theater.
Morning drive to the south, to Latvia. On the way short visit to Parnu, an Estonian resort on the Baltic sea. After crossing the border first stop at Sigulda, the “Switzerland of Latvia” located on the riverside of the Gauja river. Observe romantic ruins of Sigulda Castle, Gutmana caves – full of spring water and old legends. Visit Turaida Castle Museum, climb to the castle tower sculptures park, reflecting the rich folk heritage of Latvian people. Upon arrival to Riga panoramic tour of the capital of Latvia.
After the breakfast start a tour of Old Riga that was founded 1201 by bishop Albert. We will see the remnants of the city wall, Gothic style Lutheran and Catholic churches, Dome Cathedral built in 1211 and its extraordinary organ of 6781 pipes, where we will enjoy Concerto piccolo of organ music at noon. After a coffee break continue to the Great and Small Guilds houses reflecting the economical history of the city of merchants and craftsmen.
We’ll see the Swedish gate and the Beer-brewers street, Cats’s house and the superstitious legend, the “Three Brothers” the oldest houses of Riga, the House of the “Blackheads” another guild of wealthy single sea merchants, St. Peter church and its tower. Richard Wagner street and the house where, composer lived in Riga in the years 1837-1839 and where he wrote his early opera “Rienzi”. Walking through the beautiful park in the City Center to the Statue of Freedom. Visit the area of the seaport of Riga. Rest at the hotel before the evening performance at Latvian National Opera.
In the morning, visit to the huge Central market of Riga, one of the biggest in Europe. Afterwards walking in the famous district of Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) architecture, observing the outstanding collection of numerous residence houses constructed in the years 1885-1915 in the streets of Riga, among them by architect Michael Eisenstein. Visit to the Art Nouveau museum to enjoy the examples of this style in fine arts, furniture, clothes, ware, interior, etc. In the afternoon drive to Jurmala, 25 km from Riga, a popular resort and relaxing area on the Baltic sea coast, famous for its miles-long beaches, splendid villas and pine trees forest around. Back to Riga for a dinner in a medieval restaurant “Rosengrals”.
Leaving Riga for the journey to Lithuania. On the way, we visit the wonderful Baroque Rundale Palace, summer residence of the Dukes of Courland, built by the famous Italian architect F.B. Rastrelli, the author of the Winter Palace in St.Petersburg. Visit the museum and the adjacent beautiful French park Our next destination is Kaunas, the second large city and the interim capital of pre-war Lithuania. Visit the Art Gallery of M. K. Ciurlionis, the outstanding Lithuanian painter and composer, the Devil’s Museum with hundreds statues of devils from all around the world. A walk in the Old Town with its Catholic churches, narrow streets and cobbled squares, cozy cafes and art galleries. Continue the walk along the main street, Laisves aleja, boulevard, with its 2-3 storey buildings, restaurants, shops, as they looked before the war. Late afternoon arrival to Vilnius.
Sightseeing tour of Vilnius, starting at the Hill of Three Crosses for a panorama over the city. Gediminas Castle, the Cathedral square, the Old Vilnius University, Presidential Palace, famous St. Anne Church and the pearl of Vilnius Baroque – St. Peter and Paul’s Church. We’ll walk along medieval pedestrian street in the heart of the Old City, Amber Museum, City Hall Square and the “Gate of Dawn”. Drive to Europos Parkas – Open Air museum next to the Geographical centre of Europe. Amazing collection of modern sculptures expressing Europe vision. In the evening a performance in the modern Lithuanian Opera House or a concert at Vilnius Philharmonic.
After the breakfast, walking in the medieval Jewish Quarter of Vilnius, once called the Lithuanian Jerusalem. Visit KGB building and the museum, Parliament of Lithuanian Republic. Tour of Trakai, Lithuania’s ancient capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Its 14th century insular castle and the Karaite museum offer a fascinating look into history.
Time to say Farewell to our Music Tour of the Baltics – we’ll enjoy a farewell dinner together.
