Part 1

In the city center

We recommend a Jewish tour in Tallinn. It can be a day tour or a part of a Jewish heritage tour in Estonia or in the Baltic States. The best place to start the journey is the Jewish museum. It is not very big, but it will give you the necessary information about Estonian Jews.

Here we will study how a small number of Cantonists started the Jewish community in Tallinn. Your guide will tell you how important was the Jewish community during the interwar period, and which of the famous Jewish leaders visited Tallinn.

After learning about the past, we will visit the community center and will meet the JCC staff.  It will be essential to hear from them about local Jewish education and daily activities.

Next to the community, is one of the most beautiful synagogues in the Baltics, called Beit Bela. We will meet the Rabbi who will offer you to put tefillin and will tell you about religious life in Tallinn.  There is a Kosher restaurant, “Jerusalem,” in the building of this synagogue. We plan to give you time for lunch there.

Part 2

Tallinn by bus

After lunch, we will continue with a driven part of our trip.  After about forty minutes’ drive, we will stop in the Klooga memorial. It is in the place of the Klooga concentration camp. You will see an outdoor exhibition of modern panels telling us about the atrocities and the fate of the camp prisoners. We will end up with a ceremony in honor of more than 30 000 Jews. Nazis and their local accomplices transported them from many places in Europe. All of them were murdered in Klooga.
